The 2nd International Poetry Festival of Crete is a new institution whose main aim is to establish itself as an art institution in Crete. The Festival has a nationwide scope since its purpose is to promote and promote the cultural heritage of the island (literature, oral and written tradition, music, theatre, dance etc.) and was organized by the poet Christos Koukis in collaboration with the cultural organization "HE.art" and co-organized by the Region of Crete, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, China, India, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, China, India, as well as important Greeks.
Representing the most important languages of the world, this year's event will be attended by the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Vassilis Papadopoulos, the Advisor to the former President of the United States of America. Barack Obama, Christopher Merrill, the long-time President of the European Writers' Association Jochen Kelter, the greatest living poet of our country Maria Laina, the brilliant poet and scholar Dimitris Daskalopoulos, the distinguished Latin American José Luis Díaz Granados, the bold and pioneering Brane Mozetic, the talented young Turk Efe Duyan, Latvian alternative poet Madara Gruntmane, one of the most important representatives of the 70s generation Anastasis Vistonitis, the up-and-coming poet from Spain Raquel Lanseros, the award-winning Israeli Amir Or, the versatile and active Philip Meersman, the multi-ethnic and talented Andre Naffis-Sahely and the great Italian poet Paolo Ruffilli.
During the festival there will be visits to schools in Heraklion (6th High School of Heraklion and 6th Primary School of Heraklion) and Rethymnon (5th Primary School of Rethymnon and 2nd EPAL of Rethymnon), events at the University of Crete with the support of the Department of Philology, at the "Antibaro" theatre of Rethymnon, at the historical village of Anogia with a tribute to the poetic value of the mantinada, at the monastery of Agia Irini with a presentation of the poetic dimension of Byzantine hymns and tours of the great archaeological sites of Knossos and Eleftherna.
The main event of the festival will be held in Heraklion, on Wednesday 18 May 2024 in the garden of the pre-school education centre "Little Workshop", with recitations by foreign and local poets, presentations, musical compositions and melodies. The festival programme also included theatre performances, film screenings, readings by Cretan poets, a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and lectures by distinguished guests.
All events and visits were open to the public with free participation.

Το 2ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ποίησης Κρήτης είναι ένας νέος θεσμός που κύριο στόχο έχει να καθιερωθεί ως φορέας τέχνης στην Κρήτη. Το Φεστιβάλ έχει πανελλαδική εμβέλεια αφού σκοπός του είναι να προάγει και να προωθεί την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά του νησιού (λογοτεχνία, προφορική και γραπτή παράδοση, μουσική, θέατρο, χορός κ.ά.) και διοργανώθηκε από τον ποιητή Χρήστο Κούκη σε συνεργασία με τον πολιτιστικό οργανισμό «HE.art» και τη συνδιοργάνωση της Περιφέρειας Κρήτης.Στη φετινή διοργάνωση συμμετείχν 15 ποιητές από χώρες όπως οι Η.Π.Α., η Ισπανία, η Γερμανία, η Ελβετία, το Ισραήλ, η Κίνα, η Ινδία, καθώς και σημαντικοί Έλληνες.
Στη φετινή διοργάνωση συμμετέχουν, εκπροσωπώντας τις σημαντικότερες γλώσσες του πλανήτη, ο Γενικός Γραμματέας της Προεδρίας της Δημοκρατίας Βασίλης Παπαδόπουλος, ο σύμβουλος του πρώην Προέδρου των Η.Π.Α. Barack Obama ο Christopher Merrill, ο επί δεκαετίας Πρόεδρος των Ευρωπαίων Λογοτεχνών Jochen Kelter, η σπουδαιότερη εν ζωή ποιήτρια της χώρας μας Μαρία Λαϊνά, ο λαμπρός ποιητής και μελετητής Δημήτρης Δασκαλόπουλος, ο διακεκριμένος Λατινοαμερικανός José Luis Díaz Granados, ο τολμηρός και πρωτοπόρος Brane Mozetic, ο ταλαντούχος νέος Τούρκος Efe Duyan, η εναλλακτική ποιήτρια της Λετονίας Madara Gruntmane, ο εκ των σημαντικότερων εκπροσώπων της γενιάς του ΄70 Αναστάσης Βιστωνίτης, η ανερχόμενη ποιήτρια της Ισπανίας Raquel Lanseros, ο βραβευμένος Ισραηλινός Amir Or, ο πολυσχιδής και δραστήριος Philip Meersman, ο πολυεθνικός και ταλαντούχος Andre Naffis-Sahely και ο μεγάλος Ιταλός ποιητής Paolo Ruffilli.
Κατά την διάρκεια του φεστιβάλ πραγματοποιήθηκαν επισκέψεις σε σχολεία του Ηρακλείου (6ο Γυμνάσιο Ηρακλείου και 6ο Δημοτικό Ηρακλείου) και του Ρεθύμνου (5ο Δημοτικό Ρεθύμνου και 2ο ΕΠΑΛ Ρεθύμνου), εκδηλώσεις στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης με την υποστήριξη του Τμήματος Φιλολογίας, στο θέατρο «Αντίβαρο» του Ρεθύμνου, στο ιστορικό χωριό των Ανωγείων με ένα αφιέρωμα στην ποιητική αξία της μαντινάδας, στο μοναστήρι της Αγίας Ειρήνης με ανάδειξη της ποιητικής διάστασης των βυζαντινών ύμνων και περιηγήσεις στους σπουδαίους αρχαιολογικούς χώρους της Κνωσού και της Ελεύθερνας.
Η κεντρική εκδήλωση του φεστιβάλ πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Ηράκλειο, την Τετάρτη 18 Μαΐου 2024 στον κήπο του κέντρου προσχολικής αγωγής "Μικρό Εργαστήρι", με απαγγελίες ξένων και ντόπιων ποιητών, παρουσιάσεις, μουσικές συνθέσεις και μελοποιήσεις. Το πρόγραμμα του φεστιβάλ περιλάμβανε επίσης θεατρικές παραστάσεις, κινηματογραφικές προβολές, αναγνώσεις από Κρήτες ποιητές, αφιέρωμα στα 100 χρόνια από την Μικρασιατική Καταστροφή και διαλέξεις από διακεκριμένους καλεσμένους.
Όλες οι εκδηλώσεις και επισκέψεις ήταν ανοιχτές στο κοινό με δωρεάν συμμετοχή.
